Places To Eat in Marrakesh:  Dar el Yacout

Restaurant Dar el Yacout is one of the most famous restaurant in Marrakech located in a beautiful Riad near Bab Doukkala with a splendid terrace from which to dine.  The atmosphere is exotic and quite opulent.  The food is nothing short of a gatronomical feast with its 6-course Moroccan dinner.   For example, starters might include chicken liver and aubergine salad, or sweetbread triangles made with tomatoes and carrots.  Main entrees may include the following:  pastilla with pigeon or chicken, chicken with lemon, oven baked fish, lamb steamed and browned in the oven, lamb tangine with seasonal vegetables, and tangine mekfoul with tomatoes & onions, lamb shoulder barbeque with guérouanne or red medallion and couscous with vegetables.   Dessert offerings are pastilla with milk, orange salad or honey pancakes.  Dinner is a bit higher than lots of places (over $50 USD per person), but for the large quantities of food and alcohol drinks included in the tab, it's still a great deal.  There are other restaurants that get unanimous reviews of being exceptional unlike this one that gets both rave and less than mild responses.

This extremely interesting article on Marrakesh written by James Henderson, tells the story of designer Bill Willis, who worked not only on the Dar El Yacout (which was converted into a restaurant in 1987), but also designed two houses in Morocco for Yves Saint Laurent.
